WHERE IT BEGAN
The Starting Line
Rick grew up in rural Kentucky in circumstances that were not always stable or easy. His childhood exposed him to hardship, uncertainty, and limited expectations—but also to hard work, family, responsibility, and the belief that where a person starts does not have to determine where they finish.
Those early years shaped Rick’s drive to build something different for himself and, later, for his own family.
THE REALIZATION
Success Wasn’t the Whole Scoreboard
At fifty, Rick began looking at the life behind the résumé.
The promotions mattered. The degrees mattered. The military career mattered. Providing for his family mattered. But so did the ordinary evenings, the conversations, the people he loved, the mistakes, and the years that disappeared while everyone was busy planning for later.
That reflection became Measured in Seconds. Not because Rick believes he has life figured out.
Because he realized how quickly a life can happen while you are trying to build one.
The Life Behind the Title
Rick lives in Kentucky with his wife, Christy, near their four adult children and grandson. Family remains one of the strongest influences on how he thinks about leadership, time, responsibility, and legacy.
His goal is not to convince people to become more like him. It is to encourage them to become more intentional about becoming themselves.
What Will You Do With Your Next Second?
Your starting line may shape you. It does not have to choose your finish line.
